This website is maintained by Michel van der Hoek. I was born in the Netherlands and am now living in the United States. I have an interest in the great American experiment, in particular the politics and history of the country. I am fascinated by the history surrounding America’s independence, the Revolutionary War and the forging of the U.S. Constitution.

I am not a member of any political party but as a Reformed Christian I am unapologetically conservative (see the principles page). That means I generally support Republicans rather than Democrats, mostly because of social issues.

In addition to my day job, I am also a freelance writer and commentator on U.S. politics for Dutch media. I write occasional articles for Nederlands Dagblad and have been a regular guest on Dutch public radio.
